Well Passport Weekends have come and gone...and a great time was had by all!
For those of you who are new to El Dorado County wine events, Passport Weekend is probably the highlight of the year. Our local winegrowers association, EDWA, throws a great party! Wine-lovers buy their passports for one of two early spring weekends and then armed with their souvenir wine glasses, they trek from winery to winery throughout the county, tasting wines and the fun foods the winemakers have paired them with. There is no need to eat a meal all weekend when you’re on passport. This year some wineries featured live music and one even offered belly dancing.
Here at Nello Olivo, we paired our Viognier with a baked brie smothered in brandied apricot glaze and fruit...followed by three different grilled sausages to mix and match with our delicious reds...and “lasagna cupcakes” to eat while enjoying our signature red blend, the ’08 Toscanello, winner of two Gold Medals this year so far.
Our dessert was a huge success. Shari Fitzpatrick (of Shari’s Berries fame) appeared in person to dip all sorts of berries in her amazing chocolate concoctions. Shari dips our wines in chocolate also - and we offer them for sale to our customers for special occasions. In fact Shari will dip almost anything in chocolate, even her popular autobiographical book: Berried in Chocolate, which is an enjoyable success story. Thank you Shari, you were a smash hit!
Thanks also to all those Nello Olivo enthusiasts who played “The Help” - including Roger and Lyn Greene, Beth Turk, Mike Madden, Bill and Christiane Dawson, Dr. Stephen Gomez and his wife Josesine, Lance and Angela Johnson (Lance is our fantastic vineyard manager), Mike Cole and his wife, Sam, who makes the most amazing cookies and brought them to share...and last, but not least, Amanda Williams, daughter of local wine club members. A big Italian GRATIE to you all!!!
